TIME ON THE MARCH

First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt: I am sure that everyone has been going around with a lighter heart recently after reading that Hitler has agreed to join the League of Nations in the discussions about the present European situation. I have always felt that in a tense situation, if time could be given for everyone to discuss what was going on before they actually went to war, we might come to our senses.

Berlin is being beautified for the Olympics. The city is being scrubbed and scoured, illuminated with new rows of electric lights and dotted with swarms of courteous attendants. Elderly American tourist, interviewed near his hotel on Berlin’s main boulevard, Unter den Linden: This is the kindest country. I never had so much attention. Why, coming in on the train the conductor visited me every few minutes. Was I comfortable? Would I like something to drink? Would I like my window up or down?
